Jigokudayu was a famous fifteenth century courtesan who realized the error of her ways when she caught sight of a skull - some say, when she looked at herself in a mirror. Her name means "Lady from Hell," and she wore pictures of Heaven and Hell on her clothes: the figures on her sash represent Buddha and Yama, King of Hell.
